It was, however, suspicious that Lissandro and Juan remained in touch or that they knew each other to begin with. People in our line of work didn’t believe in coincidences. I yawned at the red light and a calmness washed over me.
Poor Akemi.
I wondered if she was still at the crib trying to make sense of her life events. When traumatic stuff happened during childhood, it made it hard to process. If not processed properly, it could easily become a ghost, haunting until resolved.
The light turned green and I smoked the cars beside me. I was in need of a new project and with this last scene of the movie taped, I’d have a couple of months of down time to fill. The junkyard was calling my name. Maybe I could rope Akemi into helping me restore a car to take her mind off things. She would need a car when she goes to MIT in the fall.
After a few blocks, I turned into their driveway and sent Marvin a text: I’m here, pretty boy.
